Philosophy in the spotlight

“The Socrate d’or” was awarded to the best philosophy paper produced during the last “bac blanc” (mock exam) by the Teminale’s students, who were put through their paces under real exam conditions. They had to choose between two essay topics, the first ‘Should we give up explaining a work of art’, the second ‘Is a universal language desirable’, or an analysis of a text by the Dutch philosopher Spinoza.

Leen Joujou was awarded the Socrate D’or 2024 for the complexity of her personal thinking, the quality of her arguments and the depth of her questioning, which enabled her to tackle the subject rigorously. Congratulations to Leen Joujou.

The aim of this competition, organised by Mr Fontaine, our philosophy teacher, is of course to promote this discipline within the school, but also to highlight the academic work of our students, over and above their extra-curricular achievements.

The Socrate d’Or is now a tradition at the LycĂ©e Bonaparte.
